Why Refugee Children Should NOT be Blamed

Image
any a time, refugees are accused of not fighting for their  home countries, but rather seeking asylum and a better economic life. The stigma associated with being a refugee could be the reason why many displaced people  tend to hide their identities and status as 'stateless' according to UN charter definition. Their situational poverty is coupled with constant undermining. Although a fairly large number of people sympathise with the refugees( many of them who experienced similar atrocities and some never experienced but may feel through reading or any other reason), there are those who blame the refugees for not being strong enough to fight for their respective countries instead of fleeing. This negative attitude about refugees as cowardly leads to bullying of refugee students which in turn may cause low-self esteem, low performance and even physical injuries. Some may even go too deep that they scrap off a person's dignity on the basis of being a refugee.  The fact is, h...

World Learning Point

One of the ways in succeeding in a specified discipline is by having friends who have a strong interest in the said subject. You are who you surround with. This creates the desired environment. Since time immemorial, humans have proven and appreciated how the environment could affect one's success. And as a result, Kings used to send their children to knowledgeable people.  I have been invited to this group by Lorenzo from the Dominican Republic. Lorenzo actively participated in my other group called Free Biology  He was the first person from the Dominican Republic, making get interested in his country, and he told a lot about the education system and the culture of Dominicans. At World Learning Point, diverse students driven by curiosity. In their attempt to answer questions of why, how, when and what, the group members share videos, documents and even their own views. The name of this group starts with the "World" giving it special international flavour emphasising the ...

Educational Quotes

Image
As a person who values education, I have collected 10 inspiring quotes about education to encourage myself and for my readers as well. Interestingly, the authors of these quotes are very diverse. Through education, we can reset minds, combat terrorism and violence, improve economies and make lasting changes. Studying the universe is one way we can thank God for He has not created it without a purpose. I believe that the purpose of education is not to make money but to solve problems. I hope every child would acquire an education that would prepare them for adult life. 1. There is no envy except in two: a person who God has given wealth and he spends it in the right way, and a person whom Allah has given wisdom (ie knowledge) and he gives his decisions accordingly and teaches it to the others.       Prophet Muhammad, SAW 2.  knowledge is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.      Nelson Mandela 3. "1. By the morning brightness. 2. And the night as it settles. 3. Your Lord did not abandon you, nor is He displeased. 4. The Hereafter is better for you than the First. 5. And your Lord will give you, and you will be  satisfied . 6.  Did He not find you orphaned, and He sheltered you?  7 . PICTURE OF HARDEST TIME OF MY LIFE

Image
I had the urge to describe an image in my head ever since I started picturing it. I drew the image in my mind in 2014. I really liked to share it with you but I could not mainly because I was not an artist neither did I had a good command of English language to describe the image in my head. Recently I came across this picture which resembles the one I had in my head in 2014/2015 A man from far distance puts himself into danger to save a life B efore I share the image let me talk about what I was going through. During this time, I was suffering from serious poor mental health. I was depressed. I had suicidal thoughts and I also attempted to take my life on many occasions. I remember one  day I wanted to throw myself into the valley of moving water and cheating God by pretending I am swimming yet I don't know how to swim. But I decided to swim (commit suicide) after Dhuhr prayer just to forget it. I was 15.I was perfect example of failure .I was weak and sickly. I was...

My First Childhood Failure: Now I Called it Experience!

Image
In 2011, when I was class five at Fuji refugee Primary School, l took the risk of reading and trying to work hard without knowing whether I would pass or fail. It was normal to be labelled unintelligent and stupid if you read and fail. To avoid such a label, most students choose not to read and fail, for they would at least not feel guilty. Reasons for the going to school, after all, ranged from taking porridge as a main meal to protection from wind, scorching sun and exploiters.  Notwithstanding, all pupils were united by hope One day I suddenly took the decision to face my fear. The fear of reading books.   "Mom!" I said, keeping eye contact with her, " Buy me a Science book." I cried.  My mother bought me a brand new standard 5 science book plus other books such as Social Studies, English and Mathematics which I have not asked for. For the first time, I planned self-driven, 4-years-length goals, for instance, adding one more language, English, by 2...

Greenlight Refugee Secondary School

Image
Greenlight Secondary School is one of the 5 secondary schools in the refugee camp. It is about 15 minutes away from my home. Since UNHCR could not meet all fundings required to maintain the school, due to the increase of global refugees; students are required to pay Ksh. 3 000 which is around $30 per year. This amount is too much for refugee students and is one of the reasons for high drop-outs in the refugee camp. In 2015, thousands of students protested.  This came after World Refugee Crises in the middle east, which led to an abrupt reduction in services provided in the refugee camp. Educational services, which is highly valued for its connection with personal development and long term self-reliance was one of the sectors seriously affected. However, ksh 3000 a year is not still enough to maintain the school facilities such as the library, laboratory and payment of teachers to mention a few; therefore, there are individual and organisational donors such as Windle Trus...

Da'wah

𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Even though this blog is to raise the need for promotion of education among children, I would post my views on religion. Islamization is a poem I have composed on march 2017. It is important to note that one of the  purposes of education is to express one's views in the best way. I employed stylistic features. Its shape has a purpose. You can study it and share it as well. This is the poem.         Islamization. In order to demolish discrimination             There must be Islamisation That enhances people's relations     And eliminates complication           Islam is God's submission Composed of peaceful Population    And spreads through delegations      Uplifting youths with frustrations                                     Like ant's unison ...

Don't Quit

Image
Don't Quit is a poem that I thought expressed my feelings at the time; that was 2015. The poem was not only encouraging but it was also instructive. It streered my life to challenges and success in the midst of harsh financial situation. It encouraged me to continue facing my fears . I hope that it will also motivate you and instruct you... The author is unknown. Don't Quit. When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit- Rest if you must, but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a fellow turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than It seems to a faint and faltering man; Often the st...

Life-saving Ways to Help a Refugee

Image
Refugees are people who had been forced to leave their comfortable homes in order to escape war, persecution or natural disaster. It is important to know that no human being choses to flee from his home to another land where there is a temporary shelter, limited food supply and poor individual development unless the home is a threat to their own existence. If you are a kind person you may want to give a hand to the suffering human beings. But you may wonder how you can help them? There are acts that may seem simple to you but to a refugee is a life-saving. To begin with, the best way to help refugees,  I believe, is consulting with them. Listening to their stories, providing verbal solutions and just noding your head is way of showing Kindnesses, love and thoughtfulness. This simple act can improve their mental health and give them contentment and a hope to live with. It is very hard for a refugee to trust anyone because one may take advantage of their vulnerability. Therefore ...
