World Learning Point

One of the ways in succeeding in a specified discipline is by having friends who have a strong interest in the said subject. You are who you surround with. This creates the desired environment. Since time immemorial, humans have proven and appreciated how the environment could affect one's success. And as a result, Kings used to send their children to knowledgeable people. 

I have been invited to this group by Lorenzo from the Dominican Republic. Lorenzo actively participated in my other group called Free Biology He was the first person from the Dominican Republic, making get interested in his country, and he told a lot about the education system and the culture of Dominicans.

At World Learning Point, diverse students driven by curiosity. In their attempt to answer questions of why, how, when and what, the group members share videos, documents and even their own views.

The name of this group starts with the "World" giving it special international flavour emphasising the philosophy of collective responsibility of the universe which I hugely support as I identify myself as a global citizen. The members are actually from different areas of the world, but all have a deep interest in education.

Greenlight Refugee Secondary School

Greenlight Secondary School is one of the 5 secondary schools in the refugee camp. It is about 15 minutes away from my home. Since UNHCR could not meet all fundings required to maintain the school, due to the increase of global refugees; students are required to pay Ksh. 3 000 which is around $30 per year. This amount is too much for refugee students and is one of the reasons for high drop-outs in the refugee camp. In 2015, thousands of students protested.  This came after World Refugee Crises in the middle east, which led to an abrupt reduction in services provided in the refugee camp. Educational services, which is highly valued for its connection with personal development and long term self-reliance was one of the sectors seriously affected.
